She is going to make a wonderful addition to a lucky home. Apply today for Rita! 1/10/12 After spending the past two months in a kennel, Rita has finally gone into a foster home! As you can see from the updated pictures, she is settling in really well and is so happy to be back in a home environment! She is now in foster with two children, ages 6 and 8. When left off leash in her fenced backyard for the first time, Rita jumped and ran around, happy to frolic in her new home. She loves to lay in the sun and she enjoys sitting on the deck. Her foster mom will post more info once she gets to know Rita better. 12/7/11 Rita is such a sweetheart! She was slow moving coming out to meet me, but her face lit up when she knew she was getting out of the kennel for a little while. We took a nice stroll together and Rita is very easy to walk and very calm. She enjoyed just sitting in the sun and sharing my company. Rita has the cutest little face that just makes you want to give her tons of hugs and kisses (which she sure doesn't mind!) Rita doesn't deserve to be in the kennel, please consider fostering or even better - giving her a place to call her forever home! 10/31/11 Rita is now at a boarding kennel, which is no place for a senior dog. She has been in a foster home since last May and is very confused about what is happening to her. Rita is waiting for that special person to rescue her - please apply today to help Rita! 10/10/11 After over a year in foster, Rita is losing her foster home and is in urgent need of a new place to go. She has been with AABR almost two years now and would love to finally find her forever home. She would do best in a home without other dogs, but is wonderful with people and will make keep you laughing! Rita does not deserve to go to a kennel - please offer to foster or adopt her today! 8/12/11 Here is a new video of Rita in her foster home: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5J2jxg7dzRY 8/5/11 Rita is doing very well in foster and is getting better at responding to commands. She does have that lovable stubborn Boxer streak at times. Her preference is to lay in the sun outside, except when it is too hot. She knocks on the door to let me know she is ready to come inside. Although Rita should be an only dog, with a strong pack leader, she can adapt to another dog in time. It took several days, but she now accepts and shares doggy beds with Lily, who came home with my daughter. Rita is going to make a terrific companion for somebody. All she needs is lots of love and a forever home. 1/21/11 Rita is continuing to improve in her foster home, although she still is startled easily at sudden noises. She is shy with new people, but usually warms up to them nicely. We are still working on the sit command...It is too funny to watch because when I ask her to sit she gets excited and does the Boxer wiggle all over the room. All I have to do is just touch her head and collar and she sits. Too cute. Rita loves being with my other Boxer, Rocky. She likes a little more activity than my senior boy. She likes a tug rope too! She runs all over the back yard with just a little chasing....at times it is a chore getting her to go back in the house. Rita is used to having somebody home with her most of the day. She loves having a fenced yard to run and play in. She is a great boxer girl - apply today to adopt Rita! 7/12/10 Rita is doing wonderful in her foster home. She and 8 year old Rocky get along great and have no problems at all. We are still working on the sit command - she just gets so excited that I am talking to her that she dances all over the place instead of sitting. She is so cute. I can hold her collar and then she does sit. Rita is very content to sleep most of the day. She gets spurts of energy and races around the yard for a couple laps and then she is happy to get back in the air conditioning. She does have her sneaky side too. I found a bottle outside that I had left at the side door to put into the recycle bin. Rita is a charming and sweet girl - she will make you smile and laugh. Apply today to adopt Rita! 2/22/10 Rita, our sweet Rita, we are so sorry the home we chose for you was not a good choice and you are now back at the kennel. We know you will be safe there and they will provide excellent care for you, but our heart breaks when you look at us with those sad eyes when we try to explain to you we are doing everything we can to find you a foster family to be with until your real forever family finds you. We promise to make better choices for you in the future. A more precious girl you will not find, Rita is a doll, so very sweet. She is confused at all the changes she has been through the last several months - changes she should not have had to endure, but such is life in rescue sometimes. Rita needs, and more importantly, deserves a home who will love her unconditionally, as she does them. She needs consistency and stability. We want Rita to go a home where she will have a male dog companion, and a fenced yard is a must for her. Rita was a puppy mill girl, she has a lot yet to experience in life, she needs a loving family to explore with her as she learns to enjoy the finer things in life. One look into her sweet face and you will be hooked, she is so worth the time she will need to get into a routine and start living and loving life as she should. Please open your heart and home to this special girl, you will be thankful you did. 2/19/10 Rita is in urgent need of a foster or forever home. She is currently at one of our kennels and we are hoping to get her back into a home soon. Rita needs a home with a fenced yard and would do best in a home with another dog. She is very sweet and loving with people. Thank you for your interest in Rita! 12/12/09 - Update I have been fostering Rita for almost 2 weeks in my home. She is a darling little thing. Rita is completely housebroken. She is getting along well with my medium sized dog and my boxer. She also does well around my cat. Rita is very shy at first, but once she gets to know you she comes out of her shell. Rita loves squeaky toys and loves to play. She still has a lot of pep in her! I feel Rita would do well in a relaxed home. She does like to play with balls but she is not the type to play rough with another dog. Rita is very happy to lay on your lap or beside you on the couch and get belly scratches and love from you. Rita is SO happy to be in a home where she can run outside and play and get some TLC. Apply today for Rita! 11/15/09 Rita is a six year old female boxer who was surrendered to the shelter by a puppy mill breeder because "she won't catch anymore." Rita has lived in an outdoor run the past several years. She has sores on her legs from laying on a hard surface. Rita has never known what it is like to live as a family member in the home. During her transport, she was very sweet and she did wonderfully with everyone she met. She traveled well in the car, and even discovered what a toy was all about. Rita is very gentle and easygoing. Please offer to foster or adopt Rita - and give her the loving home she has been waiting for!
