I love, love, love Tire Rack. Buying tires for a Mini Cooper can be an expensive pain in the ass. There is not a single ultra high performance summer tire out there in a non-RFT in the size of tire that BMW made up. So I used a widget to figure out other size options, and went to Tire Rack where I found a tire that was less than half the cost of the lessor of few evil options I had otherwise. I placed the order Sunday night, and received a call Monday morning from a very helpful rep named Doc. Doc explained that this alternate size might be just a tad wide, but the same tire comes in another size that would fit my car very well, and it would be even cheaper! He even bothered to tell me that the slightly smaller diameter of the tire would leave my speedometer showing something a little faster than reality -- a fact I knew, but certainly a mark of great service, no? My tires arrived at the installer on Wednesday, as promised, with the cheapest available standard shipping, and it probably would have been faster if not for the snow in the sierras right now. Oh yeah, did I mentioned that you can have the tires shipped directly to the installer? Use Tire Rack. Use the reviews on the tires and on the installers -- some of whom have their rates posted right there on the site. Use customer service, because they really do know what they're talking about.
