Job Description Supervises and coordinates activities of work crews engaged in preparing and applying concrete for fabricating covering and reinforcing structures Essential Duties Oversees workers who place forms for molding concrete install reinforcing steel and convey pour finish and cure concrete Reads specification sheets for information such as sizes of aggregates and proportions of cement and water required to ensure that concrete is mixed according to specifications Inspects bracing and shoring of concrete forms to ensure their stability before and during pouring Indicates positions for pouring chutes and runways cranes or paving machines to facilitate conveying concrete from mixer to forms Trains new workers Directs workers who spread vibrate screed and float concrete to ensure that concrete is compacted to desired consistency and surface is finished to specified uniformity and smoothness Examines concrete after forms are stripped and gives instruction to workers to repair defects such as roughness and appearance Prescribes methods for curing concrete such as covering surface of green fresh concrete with burlap plastic earth straw or chemical compound to prevent green concrete from drying out rapidly or freezing Supervises workers engaged in spraying cement mortar or concrete to cover exposed earth masonry and steel surfaces and forcing grout thin mixture of sand cement and water into drilled holes spaces between foundations and surrounding earth and fissures in rock foundations to reinforce structures Knowledge Skills and AbilitiesProficient with industry practices processes and standards knowledge of applicable building codes zoning ordinances OSHA requirements and other legal restrictionsAble to perform and instruct others in a variety of skilled concrete workAble to read interpret prepare and work from plans drawings and sketchesAble to lay out assign and supervise the work of skilled and semi skilled team membersInterpersonal skillsCommunication and organization skillsFamiliar with use and safety practices with common power tools Education Experience High School diploma GEDCompletion of apprenticeship programFive years of experience requiredOSHA CPR and Standard First Aid training certificationCurrent and in good standing driver s license MD VA DC PA WV Physical Demand and Work Environment The physical demands and work environment characteristics described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions Physical demands While performing the duties of this job the employee is required to stand walk sit use hands to finger handle or feel objects tools or controls reach with hands and arms climb stairs balance stoop kneel crouch or crawl talk or hear taste or smell Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision distance vision color vision peripheral vision depth perception and the ability to adjust focus Job requires ability to perform tasks on all areas and aspects of construction project Requires ability to climb ladders for heights of up to feet and crawl for distances of feet Job requires ability to work with tools lumber and materials Ability to lift and manipulate objects of up to lbs for feet is required Work Environment While performing the duties of this job the employee is exposed to weather conditions prevalent at the time The noise level in the work environment may require hearing protection and will be provided as required Company Description MK Concrete Construction was created by Morgan Keller in in response to a need in the marketplace for a full service concrete contractor that could provide outstanding craftsmanship and responsive service MK Concrete has the experience and expertise to handle commercial projects of any size Our extensive list of projects includes warehouses industrial plants building complexes corporate and government offices schools sports facilities retail stores and retirement communities MK Concrete can handle all aspects of the concrete work involved in your tilt up project from the foundation and slab to panel erection No one in our area has more experience with tilt up construction and we are proud to be a member of the CON STEEL Alliance an exclusive network of contractors selected on the basis of construction performance and reputation
