Orbital ATK is currently seeking an experienced Assistant Controller to join our Executive Financial Management team in our Dulles, VA campus. Role Description and Responsibilities: The Assistant Controller is responsible for assisting with all aspects of Orbital ATK's accounting function including SEC reporting, consolidations, technical accounting, and accounting operations. The Assistant Controller has responsibilities include everything from regulatory compliance with accounting standards and working with the Controller on complex accounting matters, external auditors and developing financial strategies for improving our accounting organization. The position is a highly visible and an impactful position, which will interact with our Executive Management Team as well as our Board of Directors. The Assistant Controller also supports key business partners by ensuring relevant and reliable information on a timely basis and through the realistic assessment of opportunities and risks. Critical aspect of this position is that they work in a collaborative fashion bringing transparency into the results, accounting and underlying processes and controls. Job Duties: * Creates and maintains and environment to issue timely and complete financial statements under US GAAP and our external reporting requirements with the SEC. * Instills a controls culture and discipline to accounting ensuring important judgments, risks and errors are identified and properly addressed and accounted. Ensures integrity of all financial information. * Manages and coordinates monthly closing process across the enterprise. * Partners proactively with other areas of finance including the line operations providing leadership over all accounting matters aiding the organization to perform at a higher level. * Evaluates current accounting practices and policies and drives continuous improvement. * Manages the development and implementation of accounting procedures and policies addressing new accounting standards like revenue recognition in a proactive and thoughtful manner. * Critical focus on controls deficiencies ensuring a risk based commonsense approach is identified and implemented to remediate deficiencies in a timely fashion in a businesslike manner. * Works with internal audit to ensure a risk based approach is followed reviewing areas that are more complex or riskier on a routine basis. * Manages the accounting systems and related feeder systems. * Selects, evaluates, motivates and develops employees to ensure a qualified workforce necessary to meet company's and the accounting organization's objectives while building a highly effective and functional accounting team. * Creates and environment of continuous improvement for the accounting and controls organizations. * Liaison with external audit to ensure the annual audit and quarterly reviews are completed timely in a smooth and business-like manner. Experience Requirements: * Requisite SEC, technical accounting and controls knowledge * Minimum of 10 years of experience Experience Preferred: * Previous experience as an Assistant Controller for a SEC registrant ideally in a multi-billion revenue complex company * Considerable Big 4 public accounting experience strongly preferred Skills and Qualifications: * Must be a leader * Analytical minded person with ability to understand overall business operations able to quickly pinpoint areas to focus on * Ability to effectively lead a large team, executing multiple projects and balance competing priorities * Strong focus on process improvements * Strong communication skills, both written and verbal (including public speaking skills) * System implementation and upgrading experience * Multi-location and international background * Acquisition target due diligence and integration experience * Problem solving and strategizing capabilities Education/Certifications: * Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related field * CPA or Chartered Accountant * MBA or Master's degree a plus Orbital ATK is applying entrepreneurial thinking and commercial practices to deliver reliable, innovative and affordable products and services to our customers and grow our core areas while harnessing new technologies that will take our products - and your ideas - into the future.
