We currently have an exciting contract opportunity for an Associate Scientist I in Rockville, MD. The Associate Scientist I will perform a wide variety of assays or tests required to characterize product or material safety within the Mammalian Toxicology Department. He/she will make scientific observations, maintain detailed workbooks/documentation and ensure all documentation fulfills generally accepted professional/industry standards. He/she will maintain an understanding of technological principles and applications of the organization-Ts services. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES/TASKS: -** Responsible for having a basic understanding of assays. -** Conduct pre-designed assays using basic laboratory techniques and skills. -** Follow SOPs and relevant compliance regulations in regards to safety procedures, documentation and scientific responsibility. -** Capable of executing protocols, collecting, processing and presenting data. -** Maintain study workbooks and stock solution batch records. -** Working knowledge of good safety practices. -** Demonstrate consistently good communication and interpersonal skills with employees, Management and clients (where applicable). -** Use and maintain scientific equipment, instrumentation and computer systems. DEPARTMENT SPECIFIC TASKS: -** Conduct pre-designed scientific studies using laboratory equipment and calculations to include such tasks as: -** Randomization, allocation and collection of data using a data capture system. -** Make cage cards and all necessary labels using Microsoft Word and Excel. -** Collect and process sample collections. (e.g. blood, urine). -** Identify and solve elementary problems in experimental designs. -** Make detailed observations and basic data analysis. -** Document timely, accurate, legible, error free lab records that does not adversely impact the integrity of the data. -** Advise supervisor or designee of any deviations and factors that may affect quality, accuracy and usefulness of the data. -** Train to run an entire study from protocol review to in-life data collection and addressing audit findings. -** Will become technically competent (with training and guidance) in the following routes of administration: Intramuscular (IM), Intraperitoneal (IP), Subcutaneous (SQ) and oral gavage. -** Will become technically competent (with training and guidance) in Clinical Pathology blood collection -** Must follow USDA animal welfare act and IACUC standards. -** Will become competent in Word, Excel and Provantis. -** Some weekend work will be required. EDUCATION: -** BA/BS in scientific discipline with 0-2 year-Ts experience. -** AA degree in scientific discipline with 1-3 year-Ts experience. -** Equivalent laboratory experience in lieu of degree.
