Associate Scientist III - Mammalian Mutation Req Number: sial-xxxxxxxx Location(s): Rockville, MD ASSOCIATE SCIENTIST III, Mammalian Mutation Lab OVERVIEW: The Associate Scientist III (AS III) will perform a wide variety of assays or tests required to characterize product or material safety. He/she will make scientific observations, maintain detailed workbooks/documentation and ensure all documentation fulfills generally accepted professional/industry standards. He/she will maintain an understanding of technological principles and applications of the organization's services. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES / TASKS: Responsible for having a broad working knowledge of lab policies and assays Capable of executing a broad range of protocols. Independently conducts assigned test procedures within constraints of lab scheduling Follow SOPs and relevant compliance regulations in regards to safety procedures, documentation, and scientific responsibility Advise supervisor of factors that may affect quality and usefulness of data Contribute ideas and suggestions to improve standard laboratory techniques, protocols, processes and equipment Maintain thorough records as well as peer review of assay batch records Performs basic data analysis Demonstrate consistently good communication and interpersonal skills with employees, management and clients (where applicable) Assist in training new staff members in performance of routine lab tasks Serve as a mentor to junior staff members Other duties as applicable and as assigned DEPARTMENT SPECIFIC TASKS: Perform all aspects of the Lxxxx TK** Mouse Lymphoma Mutagenesis Assay Perform all aspects of the CHO/HPRT Assay Perform all aspects of the Hemolysis Assay Responsible for the operation, maintenance, and calibration (as applicable) of laboratory equipment. Maintain an appropriate inventory of lab supplies and reagents for efficient operation. Update and review pertinent SOPs as applicable. Prepare and present demonstrations and presentations for client site visits and workshops SUPERVISION RECEIVED / GIVEN: The AS III reports to and receives general instructions on new assignments from the Laboratory Supervisor. He/she works with no supervision on routine tasks and receives minimal supervision while performing new assignments. He/she may also assist in the training of others and can be the technical lead on studies. HEALTH, SAFETY & ENVIRONMENT: Adheres to applicable safety SOPs and follows applicable safe work practices.
